1st OVERNIGHTER PART I

After finishing a 25-mile mountain bike race I asked myself, “What next?”  Well, luckily for me I brought my Fargo with me up to Winter Park fully loading will all the accessories to do my first overnight bikepacking trip.  I would ride from Winter Park north to Granby and then climb to the top of Willow Creek Pass on the Continental Divide.  It was a 40+ mile ride each day.

On my way north I was pleasantly surprised to find the Frasier Granby Trail.  It’s a gravel route that nearly parallels Highway 40 from Frasier to Granby.  Perfect for the Fargo!  Eventually it turned to single track that was full of dried cow prints, so I got back on my planned route of smooth pavement.

The valley from Granby up to Willow Creek Pass along 125 is beautiful.  This was one of the few shots I got due to the unbearable swarms of mosquitoes.  I had to rifle through my packs while riding to find my bug repellant because if I stopped I would get eaten.

After a couple hours of climbing I made it to the summit of the pass.

I set up my bivy literally ON the Continental Divide.  I could have spit to my left into the Atlantic and to my right into the Pacific without sitting up.

RUNNING WITH THE ADVENTURE DOGS

I often see people talking on cell phones when walking their dogs. They are basically ignoring their dog and missing a great opportunity to bond and witness the joy that dogs find in simple things like running. Dogs have an ability to jump into life with all fours and fully experience their surroundings. We should all be so carefree!

GREAT RIDE

I had a great ride this evening.  It was one of those rides where I was feeling no pain and it just felt good to go super hard ... and then go harder.  I haven't had a ride like this in at least a month and it felt great!  I was able to snap a couple of pics along the way with the sun setting behind the Flat Irons.

TO WHET YOUR APPETITE

The sunrises in Tuscany were quite spectacular!
